How do I get a web site?

A web site is your office on the Internet. In the real world, you have a physical place where you keep your equipment and all the things that physically make up your organization. That is your "space". You also have an address like 123 Main St., Anytown, TN 99999. That address is given to you by the Postal Service and that is how people find your "space".

Just like there are two parts to your real world office, your "space" and "address", there are these same two parts to your virtual Internet office. Web hosting is the service of providing that "space". Your domain is your "address". For example www.ifbtech.com is our domain and that address points to our space. In our space, resides the html files and graphic files that make up our web site.

Typically, to get a web site, first you must register a domain (ie. www.yourdomain.com). Secondly, you must get a web hosting account to secure the space that the domain will point to. And lastly, you must design or have someone else design the website to put in the space.

With us, you can just order the domain you want and we will register it and setup the hosting space for you via our order form. Also, if you choose the ChurchWeb hosting option, you can have a professionally designed website up and running within minutes of us sending you the new server information.

Who handles our domain name registration/modification?

When you fill out our online order form, you have the option for us to complete your domain name registration/modification automatically. If your domain name is already registered (even if only reserved or parked) we may need you to complete some of the steps, however we will guide you through the process.

If you are going to register the domain name yourself, you will need our nameserver information which is listed at the top of the order form.

What does it cost for domain name registrations/modifications?

For new domain name registrations, we do not charge anything. Your domain name will become active within 1-7 days. Currently registered domains are transfered at no charge if the current registrar will allow transfer. Otherwise, you can modify the nameservers to point to us..

How do I design my site and transfer my files?

For ChurchWeb, you just use the administration page and follow that help.

  1. Use a picture/graphic file editor to save your graphic files in a compressed format such as JPG, GIF, and PNG. Also resize them to a smaller size appropriate for web viewing.
  2. Use an HTML editor to type the text and insert the graphic files until each page looks like you want. To prevent errors, it is good practice to always save html and graphic files in all lowercase. There are several programs that can allow you to type and format just like Word but save as HTML. Microsoft Word (not very good), Microsoft Frontpage, and some that are free. Go here to find a free one.
  3. Use either and FTP program or the File Manager via the control panel to upload the html and graphic files to the "public_html" folder of your server. Unlike when you work with a Word file where the text and graphics are all saved in one file, websites are made up of HTML files (that contain text instructions on what to display) and graphic files separately. Get detailed instructions on using FTP programs here. Get detailed instructions on using the File Manager here.

You will then be able to immediately see the web pages through your browser when you go to the site. NOTE: Until your domain name has propagated through the Internet, you can view your website by going to http://ifbtech.com/~username/ where username is the username you received in your setup email. Don't forget the forward slash after the username or you will receive an error.

Do you support Microsoft Frontpage?

Yes, we support all versions of Frontpage extensions.

How often and when can I update my site?

You have 24 hour access to your server and can update it as often as you would like.

What is a Virtual server?

Let's just say 'server.' It is a machine that has all of your system and server files on it that makes a Web server. If you wanted to be the only person on that machine it would be a server dedicated to you and would cost a lot of money. A Virtual Server is the exact same files to make the Web server except we partition the files so that many people can use the same machine which reduces the cost to the consumer greatly. This is how ALL hosting companies offer low cost hosting.

How do I get technical support?

Technical support is available via the support page and you will receive a quick response.

Please submit all support issues through this page. This is how you will get the fastest possible response.

How do I pay for my server?

We accept credit card/bank account payments via PayPal or you may send us a check. ALL payments must be made in US Dollars.

You can choose the type of payment on the order form.

How long will it take to have my new account set up?

Typically we set up your new account within an hour or two of receiving your order. This of course can vary upon the load of new accounts. We guarantee that your new account will be set up within 24 hours. Once your account is setup you will receive an e-mail containing all of your new account info.

Do you host foreign domains?

Yes. We can host a domain name with any country extension.

Can I upgrade my account?

Absolutely. You can upgrade from Basic Hosting to ChurchWeb Hosting at any time. We will even give you a credit for any unused portion of your server rental towards your new account.

What about uptime. Do you guarantee it?

Yes, we guarantee 99.9% uptime. If we don't meet it, we will give you a credit for the pro-rated amount of downtime.

What is your policy on 'Spam' and Adult Oriented sites?

No tolerance policy. If you are found to be participating in either of these activities on our servers your account will be terminated.

What kind of equipment do you use?

All servers run Redhat's Linux using Apache. The servers are located in a carrier grade, state of the art data center. The data center features 65,000 square feet of space with redundant UPS, air conditioning, generator backup and smoke detection/fire protection systems. The facility is under 24/7 remote camera surveillance and security guard patrol.

What about your connection?

Our servers are connected to the Internet through 13 Gigabit Ethernet links from six separate backbone providers, who each run fiber optic cable into the data center through two separate entry points. This provides high speed response times with enough redundancy to eliminate any downtime to due the connection.

Do you back up the data and how often?

Yes, we perform daily backups on all of our servers.

How long have you been in business?

Since 1998 we have offered premier web hosting services.

Do you offer dial up access?

No. We are strictly dedicated to the hosting industry which affords our clients the best possible service and speed.

What about a secure server?

You need a dedicated IP address and an SSL certificate to make your server secure. The certificate is available as low as $39 per year. We charge $3 per month for the dedicated IP. Click here to read more.

How secure is member information in ChurchWeb and SoulTracker?

The data is very secure as it resides in a high-tech, secure network operations center. You can read more about that here. Also, we will never use the information for any purpose.

If your domain is not setup for SSL, then the link to soultracker will go through our domain (ifbtech.com). The data is encrypted as it is transferred from the server to the computer of the user logged in. However, the member login on ChurchWeb is not encrypted unless your domain is setup for SSL. Click here for more about this.

Do you offer multiple domain pointing?

Yes, and at no charge.

  • Mirroring - This is when we point a domain name to your IP so that when someone types in any domain that points to that IP the same website comes up.
  • Domain Pointing - This is when we point a domain name to a directory under your main account. The domain name accesses those files in the directory to which it points creating an entirely separate website with its own domain.

I access some sites with and some without the 'www'...What's that about?

It's a matter of preference or sometimes need. Every domain name on our servers is accessible with or without the 'www' ie.: www.yourdomain.com or yourdomain.com

I know there is more to your servers technically, where's that info?
